Certain benefits are being replaced by Universal Credit and the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) will be contacting people who claim these benefits to invite them to claim Universal Credit.
If you are contacted by the DWP it is important that you act as your benefits will stop if you don’t make a claim for Universal Credit in time.
The DWP will confirm the date you need to make a claim for Universal Credit on the Migration Notice they send you – you only need to act when you receive a Migration Notice.
What can you do to get ready?
To make a claim for Universal Credit you will need the following information:
· Bank, building society, credit union account details
· An email address
· Details of their weekly rent
· Confirmation of their employed or self-employed income
· Details of their childcare-costs
If you don't have a bank, building society, credit union account or an email address it is important that you set these up now so you are ready when they are invited to make a claim for Universal Credit.
