Colleagues from Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH) and Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have been working closely together to tackle organised crime and anti-social behaviour in Freehold.
We know that there is crime and criminal behaviour taking place in the stairwells and communal areas, and we want to take some extra action to help us to tackle this.
Greater Manchester Police have asked the courts for some new powers to help them to remove people from the blocks who are taking part in crime.
You may see the legal name for this on a noticeboard or in the media - it is called a "closure order" or “closure notice”. We know this name can be misleading. We want to reassure customers in Freehold that this does not mean that any areas are being closed.
- all this means is that it is easier for the police to remove criminals who are hanging around in the stairwells or on the passageways.
- you will still be able to go about your day-to-day activities
- your family and friends and other visitors (like health and care workers) can still use the block as normal
We want to make sure that Freehold is a great place to live that people are proud to call home. With your help, we can make this happen.
If you have any information about crime, please report it to the police. You can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. In an emergency, always call 999.
If you have any questions about these new powers, please speak to a member of your local policing team or to your RBH Neighbourhood Housing Officer (NHO), Katie Hughes. You can get in touch with RBH on customer@rbh.org.uk or by calling 0800 027 7769. Katie is on site most Mondays and Wednesdays. The next RBH Freehold community drop-in takes place on Friday 29th November from 10am to 4pm at the Freehold Annex.
