Roy is a qualified Chartered Accountant and a Chartered Tax Advisor. Now retired from practice he previously ran his own consultancy firm which provided VAT and tax advisory services, largely to the housing sector, but also to other not for profit and commercial organisations. Prior to this he was a VAT partner in an international firm of Chartered Accountants and advised over 150 different housing associations during that time, and was the chief editor and co-author of the publication VAT for Social Housing.
He also spent 9 years on the Board of St Vincent’s Housing Association, initially as Chair of the Audit Committee and then as Chair of the Association, taking it up to its merger with Mosscare Housing.
Roy was formerly a local Councillor in Rossendale, where he was Chair of the Audit & Accounts Committee, Chair of Rosso Buses and a member of the East Lancs Railway Board.
Roy’s current roles include:
· Quality Assurance Manager for the Chartered Institute of Taxation, which involves mentoring examiners and ensuring the standard of the exam papers remains high.
· Board member, Senior Independent Director and Chair of the Risk Management and Audit Committee at Together Housing Group.
· Board member at a small Credit Union with particular responsibility for accounts, treasury and risk management; and
· Assisting a local mental health charity with its accounting.
