Young people install new industrial feature at Q Gardens

A group of young people from across Greater Manchester came together on Sunday to install a new centre piece at Q Gardens, Kirkholt.

The new Industrial Garden at the community project has been pulled together by the group 15 to 17 year olds, who are taking part in the National Citizen Service Challenge looking to make a difference in a community.

The components had previously been part of a dust extraction system at their nearby factory and were destined for the scrap heap following a recent upgrade. However, the owners, Crystal Doors, thought of Q Gardens and made the donation.

Ahsan Dar, Aged 16, a volunteer on the project, said:

"I’ve really enjoyed challenging myself with the National Citizen Service, it has been a great experience to make friends and gain experience.”

Davina Unsworth, RBH Community Partnership Team, said:

“The event with the young people was a very positive experience.  They were able to carry out a whole project from start to finish and have left a lasting legacy for the whole community. The volunteers from Q Gardens worked with the group teaching them about the planting scheme and building the structures. Many of the young people have expressed an  interest in coming back to the gardens
